2019 is looking like a big year for Star Wars. Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series is returning to get the finale it was robbed of when Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012. There’s also a live-action Star Wars series coming to the Mouse’s new streaming service (Disney+) and starring former Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) later this year, and a show about Rogue One‘s Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). AND there’s also going to be a huge Star Wars convention in April:
And there’s more! Disney will finally debut the much-anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction at Disneyland, which will feature very real Star Wars towns, characters, and the Millennium Falcon. And alcohol!
And the cherry on the top of all this is Star Wars: Episode IX, which is set to hit theaters in December of this year. But why haven’t we seen a teaser?
A new report from reliable fan site Making Star Wars has it that Disney already has a full trailer finished and ready to show. “We aren’t sure if it is the final cut of the trailer or not,” writes editor-in-chief Jason Ward. “It has been seen by so few people at this point, details are scant and what we have heard we do not have permission to share. One exists but we can’t say for certain when it will hit or if the one that exists will even be the one that is released.”

To me, it sounds like a rough cut teaser has been pasted together to show the higher-ups at Disney (Bob Iger) how the film looks. In fact, my best guess is that the real Episode IX teaser won’t be shown until the Star Wars Celebration in April, when the world is watching.
For the record, The Force Awakens premiered in December of 2015, with the first teaser dropping way back in November of 2014. But in that case, Disney was rebooting the whole franchise and wanted to get out ahead of things. The first official trailer came out in April of 2015. Then first trailer forThe Last Jedi’s also came out in April, with the movie debuting December.
All that said, rumors are often more fun than reality, so…Episode IX trailer coming any day now get hype!
