Disney is using James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3 script, and apparently it’s “off the chain”

Just when you thought the James Gunn Disney saga was over, Chris Pratt, Star-Lord himself, has confirmed that the studio is moving forward with Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

If you’re unfamiliar, Disney fired Guardians director James Gunn after some tasteless tweets he made surfaced. Warner Bros. pounced and hired Gunn to write the next Suicide Squad movie, but with Gunn so inextricably tied to the Guardians movies, their future was suddenly in question, particularly after the cast members signed a joint letter of protest. Sure, we could all expect that another movie would happen eventually — the films are too popular to leave alone — but would Disney want to scrub itself of all association with Gunn? Not so much, as Pratt explains to MTV News:

“It’s off the chain,” Pratt says of the script. “It’s so good.” That’s good to hear, although the spectre of Gunn’s firing is still very much in the air:

"Well, I…love James. I’m loyal to James and I love him so much. And uh…we’re gonna, we’re gonna deliver the movie. We’re gonna, we’re gonna give the fans what they deserve. And I think it’s in the nature of the Guardians of the Galaxy to come together and get the job done. And that’s what we’ll do."

You get the idea that Pratt would maybe rather not talk about this. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, has been particularly vocal about how upset he is over Gunn’s firing, but contracts are contracts.

As for who take over directing duties from Gunn, that’s still an open question, although Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi recently confirmed that he has no interest in stepping into Gunn’s shoes.
