Empire Magazine is doing a full 21-page spread on Game of Thrones this month, and they scored some new interviews with key people on the show. For instance, VFX supervisor Sven Martin talked about how much the dragons have grown from when they first appeared in the end of season 1 to now, where “one scale on the chest of the dragon in season 7 is the size of the whole baby dragon in season 2.” Ah, memories:
He also talked about how his team of around 70 artists and animators bring the dragons to life:
"Sometimes we play the dragon ourselves to get the right idea of how they throw themselves around. That kind of acting connection with these dragons, it feels even more personal."
I’m not enjoying the image of animators stalking around the office flapping their arms and roaring. It’s fun in my head.

So what can we expect from Drogon, Rhaegal, and their undead brother Viserion in season 8? “his year, we have a very special sequence,” Martin teased. PLEASE say it’s a dragon-on-dragon aerial battle.
Meanwhile, David Nutter, the man who ripped our hearts out with the Red Wedding, directed also spoke to Empire. He directed three of the six final episodes, and promises that season 8 will be “spectacular, inspiring, satisfying” with “lots of surprises and shocking moments.” He also reminds us that the surviving characters won’t only have White Walkers to deal with. “They also have to face each other,” as well.
It sounds like Cersei and Euron — along with the Golden Company — could make things very hard for Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and the rest of the living, although let’s not forget about potential conflicts within team Stark-Targaryen itself.
As Gwendoline Christie said, we’re all going to need therapy after season 8. April 14 can’t get here fast enough.
