Game of Thrones and Star Wars are getting pretty cozy. There are a bunch of actors who have appeared in both franchises, like Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow, but Pedro Pascal, who Thrones fans remember as the unfortunately fated Oberyn Martell, is taking things to new levels with a lead role in The Mandalorian, a live-action Star Wars show coming to Disney+ later this year. And if you believe Oscar Isaac, best known for playing ace pilot Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, he convinced Pascal to take the gig.
That news came out during a joint interview the two gave to Wired, to promote their Netflix movie Triple Frontier. You can watch it below; The Mandalorian comes up around 0:48.
Also, Pascal is in the Wonder Woman sequel but Warner Bros. killed him so we’ll have to wait until the movie is out to find out more. A shame, he was a great talent. Oh, and how did Game of Thrones not come up in those Pedro Pascal Google questions? I tried it myself; it’s the first thing that comes up for me. Maybe they skipped it.
Anyway, Isaac has been gleefully spreading tales about the Star Wars series lately, and this fits right in there. As for The Mandalorian, it’s set after Return of the Jedi but before The Force Awakens, and follows “a long gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” With his swagger, Pascal should do just fine.

In other Pascal news, he talked to GQ about his most iconic roles, which of course includes some tea about good ‘ol Oberyn, at 3:09:
“Oberyn motherfuc*ing Martell, man! The Red Viper! WHAT DO YOU WANT? CHANGED MY LIFE!” He’s excited.
It’s interesting to hear that Pascal filmed Oberyn’s heart-to-heart with Tyrion Lannister on his first day on the set. You couldn’t tell.
Finally, Pascal admits that he didn’t actually do all those cool “helicopter spin jumps” during this fight with the Mountain. “But I did learn the fight…There were fight rehearsals and fight training and stuff like that and it was very very specifically choreographed. And if you see my face, it is me.”
Oh, we remember his face. Apparently the production pumped fake blood through tubes in Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson’s costume to pull off that crushed head effect. Movie magic!
