If you like a smoke and like like Star Wars, we’ve got some bad news for you: according to the Los Angeles Times, Disneyland — in an attempt to alleviate the expected huge crowds set to visit its new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park — is removing all designated smoking areas, meaning if you gotta have that nicotine fix, then you’re going to have a bad day. This move will make Disneyland a smoke-free park for the first time in its history.

Smokers aren’t the only one who will feel the stress when Galaxy Edge’s opens on May 31. Parents who use strollers wider than 31″ will be forced to carry their children like pack mules, or rent an appropriately sized stroller for $15 a day. “We are not trying to be so restrictive,” said vice president of the Disneyland park, Kris Theiler. “We want to find a compromise.”

Tell that to the parents having meltdowns when they try to scoot past security checkpoints with a 36” wide stroller, packed to excess with baby wipes, snacks, clothes, cameras, and more. This is gonna get ugly, y’all.

Still, this is a Star Wars theme park, and I can’t imagine people will stay away because of these restrictions. It just means smoking parents will have chew nicotine gum and pack the kid in a smaller stroller. Problem solved.

But there are some odd ironies there. Obviously, children are a big part of Disney’s audience, so you’d figure the company would want to accommodate them and their parents as much as possible. Disney is an expert at crowd control from way back, so it must have determined that banning strollers of that size was worth the complaints they would get. It’s also interesting that the studio is nixing smoking areas but also selling adult beverages inside Galaxy’s Edge, a first for a Disney theme park (outside of the drinks served in the private Clubs 33, anyway). So even though they can’t smoke, mom and dad can get their drink on while the kids get used to life in a 31″ prison on wheels.
