Well-known Game of Thrones leaker will no longer spoil season 8, reportedly under pressure from HBO

As Game of Thrones season 8 draws nigh, fan interest is at an all-time high. We’re hungry for any bit of info we can get. So far, HBO has given us one full length trailer and a couple of promos, but if you know where to look, there have long been other ways to learn things about Game of Thrones…secret ways.

Enter FrikiDoctor, a Spanish-language YouTuber with an excellent track record for spoiling the show if you’re into that kind of thing. During the show’s seventh season, FrikiDoctor forecast pretty much every detail of each episode before it aired, and he was almost always right. We don’t know how he did it, but he did it.

So what about season 8? Well, that’s where things get interesting. There are NO SPOILERS below, but there are Russians, lawyers, and somewhere, the truth.

Last week, Friki released a detailed video spoiling the Game of Thrones season 8 premiere, which we discussed in detail on the latest episode of the Take the Black podcast. Based on Friki’s track record, we’re basically taking his assertions as true. Not long after, Friki posted to Reddit that his video had been taken down by YouTube at HBO’s request, even after he uploaded an edited version without any footage or sound from the show. “I can understand that they are pissed off, but I don’t have any kind of confidentiality agreement with them. I can say what I think that will happen in every episode, and being right about it, it’s not a reason to take it down.”

Now, Friki has posted a video explaining his decision to now longer post videos spoiling episodes of the show, reportedly under threat of litigation from HBO. Friki talks about “thousands” of fans suggesting alternative means of posting his spoilers, including getting the Russians involved, which is always a great idea, but it looks like he’s not going to post spoilers at all anymore.

HBO went to epic lengths to keep a lid on season 8, so it’s easy to imagine it taking steps to keep plot details from getting out. Without getting into the legal dimension of it, we’re torn. We have no problems discussing spoilers, but it also might be nice to truly be surprised by the final six episodes. What do you think?
