Doctor Who: Trailer revealed for major crossover event The Legacy of Time
By James Aggas
With just months to go until the release of the biggest Doctor Who story of the year, a trailer has finally been released for The Legacy of Time.
Big Finish is doing a lot to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of making Doctor Who audios this year. We’re having the War Master meet the Eighth Doctor in the former’s own spin-off series; the First and Second Doctors meeting each other later this year, and we’ll be getting the biggest multi-Master team-up ever in the series Ravenous.
But easily the most anticipated release has to be The Legacy of Time, a huge crossover event that will feature six Doctors, many companions, and even characters from some of Big Finish’s major spin-off series. At six hours long, and featuring a huge mix of Classic and New Series characters, this is sure to be an essential purchase for many.
Big Finish have been gradually revealing bits and pieces about this very special release over the past year. But this week, they’ve finally given us a major glimpse at it with the release of a brand new trailer. Included on The Legacy of Time‘s product page, the trailer features a few more clues as to what we can expect from the release.

The Doctor and the Professors
We’ve known since The Legacy of Time‘s announcement that two brilliant archaelogists and major Doctor Who characters, Professors Bernice Summerfield and River Song, will finally be meeting each other. But we now know which Doctor they’ll be meeting: the Eighth Doctor, as played by Paul McGann.
This won’t be the first time that McGann’s Doctor has met either of these characters on audio. He met Bernice in The Company of Friends, while River Song had a major role (while in disguise the whole time) in his series Doom Coalition. But the fact that he’s meeting her now indicates that something is likely wrong with time.
We also get to hear more of the reunion between Ace and the Counter-Measures team (who they first met in Remembrance of the Daleks), and there’s a glimpse of the Third Doctor and Jo meeting Kate Stewart and Osgood.
Family reunion
But perhaps one of the most exciting meetings is the Fifth Doctor and Jenny. Played by Peter Davison and Georgia Tennant, (who, as I’m sure many of you know already, are father and daughter in real life,) this is going to be a particularly major team-up.
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
It also sounds like we’ll be getting Cybermen in the Sixth Doctor’s story, and it looks like Bernice will also be meeting the Gallifrey team of Romana and Leela.
The trailer rounds off with a scene involving all six Doctors involved in the epic story. Which, frankly, is definitely reassuring. While it’s easy to assume that we’d have a major Doctor team-up at some point during this major release, nothing is ever guaranteed. Especially after something like Zagreus, where the actors playing the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors were playing brand new characters instead.
With just months to go, The Legacy of Time looks set to be the Doctor Who event of the year, and we can’t wait to listen to it.
