Tyrion’s Hand of the Queen pin

Tyrion’s Hand of the Queen pin has popped up in a few “Fashion is Coming” pieces. As soon as Daenerys and Tyrion stop seeing eye to eye, the pin is prominent in just about every shot of Tyrion, a clue that his role as Hand of the Queen may be in jeopardy.

And during “The Iron Throne,” Tyrion does what fans have been anticipating for most of this season: He removes the pin from his lapel and tosses it to the ground right before Daenerys’ eyes. It’s a powerful moment, one that makes it clear that he won’t stand by a queen who treats her subjects in this way. After her actions in “The Bells,” Tyrion’s faith in Daenerys is shattered. And now the symbol of that faith is thrown to the ground.

The fact that Tyrion is willing to put the pin on in order to serve another leader also shows that the role of Hand means more to Tyrion than loyalty to a specific ruler. It represents how much Tyrion cares for the people and well-being of the realm, so much so that he’ll continue to serve them, even long after his hopes for the future have faded.
