Westworld filming in Singapore, will return to San Diego Comic-Con

I’ll be honest: after the second season of Westworld, HBO’s ongoing drama about robots in a futuristic amusement park gaining sentience and causing all kinds of trouble for humanity, I was wondering if the show was losing its way. The second season was long on pontifications about the nature of reality and short on momentum, but I’ll be damned if HBO isn’t getting me interested again. The trailer for the third season teases an exciting new direction, with Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul as a workaday stiff feeling adrift in a world of automation:

How will this newcomer interact with our cast of robotic hosts, both the ones who want to protect humanity and the ones who want to dominate it? We may find out more at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. After taking 2018 off, ComicBook.com reports that Westworld will return to the convention this July, probably in the San Diego Convention Center’s hallowed Hall H, where all the big boys play. We’re not sure which cast members will be in attendance, but with a cast sporting the likes of Paul, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson and more, HBO has plenty of ammo.

This news comes hot on the heels of reports that Game of Thrones will return to SDCC for a victory lap after a two-year absence. HBO hasn’t had a significant presence at SDCC for a while here, but it’s about to blow it up. The type train is leaving the station and it’s time to hop on board.

Also in Westworld news, an HBO representative confirmed to Yahoo that part of the third season will be filmed in Singapore, although we’re not sure when. Local talent agency Fly Entertainment got the rumor mill going a couple of weeks back when it announced a casting call for roles in an unnamed HBO production: it was looking for a six-nine-year-old Chinese girl and two fishermen who can speak Tagalog or Malay.

Some fans also noticed Singapore’s skyline in the season 3 trailer. It’s a technologically advanced place, so if HBO was looking to depict the city of the future, it makes sense they would look there.
