Another new Game of Thrones prequel character has been cast

As filming on HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series goes on, more info is seeping out. Yesterday, we took a closer look at the set, spotted Game of Thrones locations manager Naomi Liston milling about, and wondered if a casting call from longtime GoT partner The Extras Dept. — for a blonde-haired baby girl — was for this show. Now, fansite Watchers on the Wall (via Redanian Intelligence) has some more concrete info.

Watchers has it that young actor Joshua Moabi has been cast as a character named “Young Alden.” Behold:

So if Moabi is playing Young Alden, does that mean that someone else is playing Old Alden, or Middle-Aged Alden, or just Alden? As Watchers points out, Moabi kind of looks like a younger version of cast member Marquis Rodriguez.

Perhaps Moabi is playing Rodriguez’s character in a flashback, or given that HBO is only filming a pilot at the moment, maybe we see Young Alden first before skipping ahead in time and picking with Alden as we’ll know him over the course of the series. In fact, let me put on my tinfoil hat and take it even further: maybe the blonde-haired baby The Extras Dept. was looking for is playing the infant version of the character Naomi Watts plays. Maybe we’re going to look in on the younger versions of all the characters before fast-forwarding to the starting point of the story!

Sorry; I got carried away there. This is what fan theories are going to be like without source material.

Anyway, the title of the prequel is probably Blood Moon, although George R.R. Martin isn’t letting go of the idea that it should be called The Long Night. You can check out the full, expansive cast of the show here. I look forward to getting to know all of them better.
