The Beardsley Twins
Fans of the Outlander novels know about the infamous Beardsley twins. But for those of us who have only watched the show, let me be the first to tell you all about them. In Diana Gabaldon’s fifth Outlander book, The Fiery Cross, the Beardsley twins, Josiah and Keziah, are introduced at the age of 14.
In the book, Jamie meets Josiah first and asks him to become a tenant at Fraser’s Ridge. Before he can do that, he has to get his twin brother, Keziah, from the man that bought them at a very young age. After all is said and done, the twins end up at Fraser’s Ridge and benefit from one of Claire’s medical inventions: penicillin.
The fifth season is based on the fifth book, so I really hope to see some form of this story adapted. Not only would it be interesting to see the twins and their dynamic with the Frasers, but we would get to see Claire create penicillin! Side note: She gives the twins her homemade penicillin after performing tonsil surgeries on them.
Recently, there was some stir amongs Outlander fans when it was announced that 3-year old twins had been cast for the series. However, based on the age of these twins, it wouldn’t make sense for them to be the Beardsley twins, who are older when we meet them.
As of now, we’ve heard nothing about a pair of older twins being cast on the show. But there’s still time. Let’s not lose hope yet.
