The 10 Best Rick and Morty episodes…so far
By Cory Thone
6. The Rickshank Redemption – Season 3, Episode 1
Following a depressing season 2 finale where Rick ends up in galactic federal prison, season 3 opens with the family in a Shoney’s, of all places. It’s not long before we find out this is all a simulation, and the Galactic Federation is in Rick’s brain trying to get the formula for interdimensional travel. Rick, however, is only interested in one thing…Szechuan Sauce. Yes, this is the episode that famously got McDonald’s to bring back their McNugget sauce from the Mulan promotion and it ended with a bunch of weirdos “ree-ing” on counters across the country. Way to go, guys.
Regardless, this episode kicked off season 3 with a bang, throwing the viewer a curveball origin-then-fake origin story for Rick, and it ends with Rick taking down both the Galactic Federation and the Federation of Ricks.
5. Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender – Season 3, Episode 4
There’s going to be a lot of season 3 in the reminder of this list, just a heads up.
Vindicators 3, to me, is peak Rick. The biggest thing is that he wants no part of this intergalactic Avengers knockoff that is “The Vindicators.” He already helped them once and the group found Rick so insufferable they didn’t call him when they did Vindicators 2, which makes Morty feel bad. He’s a big fan of their do-goody ways, as he is still an ever-optimistic and hopeful kid. When he refers to the Vindicators as “my heroes,” Rick is visibly saddened by this, which turns to anger. So Rick goes on a bender and drunkenly (and ruthlessly) kills Worldender, the big bad they’ve all assembled to fight.
In his drunken jealous rage, Rick also set up a “Saw” type series of riddles and games that the Vindicators have to pass in order to not die. And it all ends with almost everyone dead and the survivors at a Logic concert, because. Also shoutout to Noob-Noob. He’s a real one.
