Horses and severed heads: Behind the scenes of The Last Kingdom season 4

The Last Kingdom season 4 is in post-production. As we await word of its debut on Netflix sometime next year, the cast and crew graciously feed our appetite for all things Wessex with behind-the-scenes images. Let’s check ’em out, arselings!

First up, Mark Rowley (Finan) and Arnas Fedaravicius (Sihtric) enjoy a peaceful moment in the sun, patiently waiting for Alexander Dreymon (Lord Uhtred) finishes his bathroom break.

Next up, Magnus Bruun (Cnut) reposts a question from Bernard Cornwell, author of The Saxon Stories, the novels on which The Last Kingdom is based. Cornwell is actually referencing Bruun’s interview with WiC. Meta!

Also referencing Cornwell’s work, Jeppe Beck Laursen (Haesten) believes the makers of Destiny might be fans of Cornwell, thanks to the name of this ship. In Cornwell’s novels, the phrase is “Fate is inexorable” rather than “Destiny is all.”

I think “Destiny is all” rolls off the tongue a little easier. Anyone else have a preference?

Back on set, Klári Tolnai, who plays Sihtric’s wife, brings us some images of herself and her onscreen children from behind the scenes of season 3. Hopefully we’ll see more of her in season 4!

Returning to season 4, Tygo Gernandt (Jackdaw) brings us an image of himself riding a horse:

Not riding a horse, but still looking pretty intimidating in a poppy field, Adrian Bouchet (Steapa) wishes everyone a happy Remembrance Day, a European holiday similar to Memorial Day. It’s also known as Poppy Day.

And we’re back to horses with a glorious shot of Fedaravicius atop a stallion. In the comments, Fedaravicius admits to appearing terrified that he might look better than Alexander Dreymon (Uhtred) on horseback, something that apparently leads to your character quickly being killed off.

And finally, proving why she’s not to be messed with, Emily Cox (Brida) displays the head of an unlucky victim. Any season with more Brida will be a good season, except if you’re this guy.

That’s it for now arselings, but more images are surely on their way! Destiny is all!
