Arrow’s Canaries spinoff series will take place in the future
By Ariba Bhuvad
Arrow fans have a lot to be excited about in the coming weeks. We’ve got the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover and a backdoor pilot for the Canaries spinoff. However, fans have been concerned about that backdoor pilot because it will also serve as the penultimate episode for Arrow.
What if the spinoff doesn’t happen? What does that mean for Oliver? Thankfully, producer Marc Guggenheim took to Twitter to set everyone at ease:
The final season of Arrow has been great so far and just looks to be getting better. One of the season’s biggest surprises was when Oliver Queen’s grown-up children turned up in their past/our present. Of course, this started raising questions for the Canaries spinoff, specifically when it would take place.
Was Mia Smoak going to stay in the present instead of returning to her future? It appeared this could be the case, but as Guggenheim clarified, the spinoff will take place in 2040. So whatever happens in Crisis and in Arrow’s series finale will not affect the new show.
I’m very excited about the path they’ve chosen to take here, connecting the future team to the present team despite the fact that Oliver Queen will be gone. This leaves potential room for future crossovers and more interconnectivity.
