Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) joins the cast of American Gods season 3
By Dan Selcke
It’s hard to imagine former Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon playing anyone else than the maniacal uber-villain Ramsay Bolton. Sure, I’ve seen him in other shows and even movies, but I’ve never been able to separate him from Ramsay. So far as I’m concerned, it’s his own fault for playing that character with such a sadistic glee.
Hopefully, that’s about to change. Entertainment Weekly has it that Rheon has landed the role of “a charming, good-natured leprechaun” named Liam Doyle on the upcoming third season of Starz’s American Gods.
To be clear, Rheon’s leprechaun will differ quite drastically from Pablo Schreiber‘s angry-drunk leprechaun, Mad Sweeney, who took a spear to the chest in the show’s second season. Doyle is described as a friendly fellow…at first, but that changes once he gets “swept back into our world of gods, luck, and magic.”
Rheon will join Blythe Danner as the Greek goddess Demeter; Marilyn Manson as Johan Wengren, the lead singer for Viking death metal band Blood Death; and Pose star Dominique Jackson as the new god Ms. World, among others. The show is staffing up in a big way!
Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday) and Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon) are returning, of course. The third season will see the story move to the sleepy community of Lakeside, which is one of those placid towns where everything seems a little perfect, so you know the other shoe is going to drop eventually.
Season 3 began production in September, so hopefully we won’t have to wait that much longer to see these gods — old and new alike — back on our screens.
