The Walking Dead season 10: Michonne goes full Negan in new teaser

The Walking Dead returns later this month for the second half of season 10, and when it does, Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) are doing things we never we’d see them do.

In the newest teaser, Michonne is wielding Negan’s barbed wire-wrapped bat, Lucille, and Negan is being subservient to Alpha (Samantha Morton), the leader of the walker-skin-wearing bad guys, the Whisperers. Check it out:

From this brief look, it appears as if Negan has completely given himself over to becoming the newest member of the Whisperers. If you’ve read the comics on which the show is based, then you know there’s an underlying story here where Negan has a choice to make, but the show — which prematurely killed off Rick and Carl Grimes, the heroes of Robert Kirkman’s comics — has been known to stray from its source material more than once, so who knows what will happen next?

“Negan and Alpha together are a formidable twosome,” says Morgan. Yeah, but formidable against whom?

As for Michonne, I’m very interested/worried to find out who she’s threatening with that bat. Maybe it’s Alpha; maybe with one swing of Negan’s former weapon of choice, she can end the Whisperer War.

“I think it’s riveting. I think it’s very unexpected,” says Gurira of season 10.

We know that Gurira is leaving The Walking Dead at some point in in the next bunch of episodes, so maybe we’re seeing some of her final moments here. I mean, just because she’s leaving doesn’t mean she’s going to die — Rick got away okay — but we still sorry.

The second half of The Walking Dead season 10 premieres on February 23, only on AMC.
