The Walking Dead: World Beyond star Alexa Mansour reveals what AMC was going to call the show at first…thank goodness they changed it.

There are a lot of exciting Walking Dead projects in the pipeline, including the season 10 finale (not to mention season 11), Fear The Walking Dead season 6, and even a trilogy of movies all about Rick Grimes.

One of the more mysterious projects is The Walking Dead: World Beyond, a new show that looks at the first generation to grow up in the zombie apocalypse. The two-season limited series is set to premiere in October, after being delayed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Set around a decade after the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse, it introduces a new generation of survivors who have come of age in a world ruled by the dead. The series stars Alexa Mansour (Hope), Aliyah Royale (Iris), Nicolas Cantu (Elton), and Hal Cumpston (Silas).

A few weeks ago, during a panel at Comic-Con@Home, we also found out that the series will star Joe Holt as Dr. Leo Bennett, a biochemist and geneticist seeking a cure for zombie-ism. If you’re not into watching a group of kids go on an adventure, maybe that will draw you in.

So the show is looking pretty good, but it was a process. Speaking on the Talk Dead to Me podcast, Alexa Mansour revealed that the World Beyond subtitle, in particular, only came into existence after shedding a much lamer title. “We had no idea what we were called ,” she remembered. “We would go to set and our codename was ‘Monument,’ which I thought was pretty cool. We kind of shot on Monument Street in Virginia and all this kind of stuff, and I was like, ‘That’s actually a really cool name, you should keep that.'”

Then, she revealed that the original title was “Endlings,” which is…she puts it best: “I don’t think any of us liked that name, to be honest.”

"We all joked around, like ‘Children of The Walking Dead.’ We would joke around on set and say all these weird, stupid names. And they came up with ‘World Beyond.’ That moment felt better than actually booking the job, because we were real, it felt like we were actually something."

At least they all got what they wanted in the end.

With World Beyond, it looks as if AMC are trying to take The Walking Dead franchise into new territory.  We’ll find out whether it’s territory worth exploring when the show premieres on October 4, right after the long-awaited finale of The Walking Dead season 10!
