Rumor: Has Alison Brie been cast in Disney’s She-Hulk series?
By Corey Smith
From the start, rumors have swirled that Community alum Alison Brie would be cast as She-Hulk in Disney’s upcoming show. Has it finally come to pass?
It’s been known for a while that Disney+ is making a TV show all about She-Hulk, just one of the many Marvel series in the works over there, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye and more. And for almost as long as we’ve known about the She-Hulk show, we’ve heard rumors that Community and Mad Men veteran Alison Brie might land the lead role.
Now, the rumor is picking up steam, with the YouTube channel Everything Always saying that Brie has indeed gotten the titular role of the superhero/lawyer.
“Industry insider” Mikey Sutton sounds very confident. “One source has told me that Brie has agreed to a deal. There is no official announcement yet but this is the same insider who leaked to me that Brie Larson has discussed being Captain Marvel with Kevin Feige shortly after she won an Oscar [for Room].”
That certainly sounds promising. With lead roles in stuff like GLOW, Alison Brie has certainly proven herself up to the task of playing a character as iconic as She-Hulk. “Her intelligence, her buoyant personality, her comic timing — she’s Jennifer.”
“Jennifer” is Jennifer Susan Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner/Hulk. (Obviously we’re hoping for an appearance by Mark Ruffalo.) After an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, she acquires most of the Hulk’s strength, but retains her intelligence and personality. Now green-skinned, Walters returns to her job as an attorney and busts crime as a superhero in her off-hours.
She-Hulk doesn’t suffer from her cousin’s famous temper for the most part, but she can be provoked, and gains strength the angrier she gets.
So far, Brie has played coy when asked about the role, most notably when she appeared on The Late, Late Show with James Corden.
Whether series is a one-shot thing or a continuing saga, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has said that She-Hulk will eventually transition her way into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe after her introduction on Disney+. Stay tuned for more.
