Outlander author solves Jamie Fraser mystery from the very first episode
By Ariba Bhuvad
Outlander author Diana Gabaldon talks about the next book in her series, and confirms a long-running fan theory about Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
As fans of Starz’s Outlander embark on potentially the longest Droughtlander we’ve ever had to endure, Sony has given us something to hold us over. Over the course of four weeks, a new four-part Facebook series will take us behind the scenes of the beloved show, bringing us interviews with author Diana Gabaldon, Sam Heughan (Jamie), Caitriona Balfe (Claire), and many more.
You can watch the, End of Summer, on the Outlander Collector Facebook page every Sunday. The first episode, which featured executive producer Maril Davis and Gabaldon, already aired, and it yielded some very interesting info.
First up, we solved a mystery that’s been haunting us ever since the series premiere, when Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) thinks he sees a mysterious figure in the night looking up at Claire through a hotel window. They’re in Inverness at this point in time, and before Frank can get around the situation, the figure disappears.
Who was that person? A ghost? Was it…Jamie’s ghost? Gabaldon finally tells us.
"It is Jamie’s ghost, and how that will be answered is the last thing in the last book."
In the last book?! That’s a long time to wait, but I love that we’re moving towards an answer. I could imagine Starz opting to end the show on the very same note, provided they don’t beat Gabaldon to the finish line.
Speaking of which, Gabaldon talked about the progress she’s made on the upcoming ninth Outlander book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. “I’m now in the final phases, so I know what it is,” she said. “And I can’t say there isn’t any tragedy. But it’s not Jamie.”
Well, that’s a relief. But what about Claire? Gabaldon left that one up to our very active, anxious imaginations. And now I’m nervous.
But hey, the good news is that whatever tragic plot twist is coming, at least there’s another book on the way. If only George R.R. Martin could take some notes from Gabaldon…
