Disney accidentally confirms [REDACTED] is in The Mandalorian season 2

Rumors have been flying about Star Wars legacy characters appearing in the second season of The Mandalorian. Consider a couple of them confirmed.

The second season of The Mandalorian premieres later this month, and the hype is building. We’re already excited to watch the further adventures of Mando and Baby Yoda, but if all the rumors are to be believed, season 2 will bring us a boatload of guest stars that tie into other parts of the Star Wars universe. Of late, those rumors have started to firm up.

Go no further if you don’t want to learn SPOILERS.

The most persistent rumor about The Mandalorian season 2 is that it will feature Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. First introduced in the TV show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka began her journey as a Jedi-in-training under Anakin Skywalker, eventually becoming a powerful warrior in her own right with her own arc on the sequel show Star Wars Rebels.

Ahsoka was probably the most important character that Clone Wars and Rebels creator Dave Filoni contributed to the Star Wars mythology, so it makes sense that he’d bring her into his new show, The Mandalorian, which is set after both of his earlier ones. Now, it’s basically confirmed that she will indeed show up, thanks to an Instagram story from the German account for Disney+. The actual video has since disappeared, but not before it was captured by Kessel Run Transmissions:

And there you go: The Mandalorian season 2, “with Timothy Olyphant, Rosario Dawson, and Sasha Banks.”

It’s good to get confirmation on Banks and Olyphant as well. We’d heard pro wrestler Sasha Banks was appearing in season 2 a while back, although we’re not sure who she’s playing. As for Olyphant, we’ve heard that he’s playing Boba Fett…kind of. It looks more likely that he’s playing Cobb Vanth, a character from a series of Star Wars novels who buys Boba Fett’s armor. Head here for an explanation on that complicated story.

And the actual Boba Fett will turn up as well, played by Temuera Morrison, who played Boba’s father-clone Jango Fett in the Star Wars prequel movies. And there have been hints that Rahul Kohl may play Ezra Bridger, a Jedi character from Star Wars Rebels. At the end of Rebels, Bridger disappeared into the far reaches of space, and Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren resolving to find him. If Ahsoka is showing up, it follows that Sabine and Ezra may as well.

So that’s a lot of Star Wars legacy characters potentially showing up. At this point, I consider them most of them confirmed. What’s the point of bringing all these characters into a show that in its first season had a very tight focus on Mando and Baby Yoda? If you believe yet more rumors, Disney’s endgame is to created a shared universe of Star Wars shows to rival anything Marvel can put out. I’ll leave it to you decide if that’s a good or a bad thing.

The Mandalorian season 2 premieres on October 30, on Disney+.
