Expand the Universe

The first season did an excellent job of balancing the old with the new. While the show expanded the greater Star Wars universe, we also returned to fan-favorite planets like Tatooine. We saw recognizable things like the super battle droids from the prequels, Stormtroopers, carbonite, etc.

The season 2 trailer showed X-Wings, and while including familiar things from Star Wars mythology keeps the universe feeling connected, we are also looking forward to seeing new ideas and places. One of the more exciting aspects of the first season was learning about Mandalorian culture and the Great Purge. Hopefully, this next set of episodes will expand more on that and other things, like the Empire remnants, the Child’s species, and maybe even the Jedi Order.

The Mandalorian season 1 did a phenomenal job of capturing that classic Star Wars feeling even though it had nothing to do with the Jedi, the rebellion, and so on. Mando and company weren’t even familiar with the Jedi and the Force. It’s reminiscent of how the Netflix Marvel shows were connected to the MCU while also being distinct from the movies.

This makes the show feel like it can stand on its own without relying too much on references from previous films or television shows, and we hope it doubles down on that aspect.
