Lots of callbacks to “Chapter 6: The Prisoner”

This episode had many tie-ins and callbacks to “Chapter 6: The Prisoner” from the first season. The recap at the beginning featured the droid character Zero, played by Richard Ayoade. He has a small cameo in this episode, as the Frog Lady uses Zero’s “vocabulator” to communicate with Mando, who does not speak her language. It was nice to hear The IT Crowd actor again, if only for a brief moment.

Earlier in the episode, Mando gets into trouble with some New Republic X-wing pilots after they connect him back to the Bothan-Five, the prisoner transport ship featured in “Chapter 6.” While their pursuit led the bounty hunter to crash the Razor Crest, they save Mando from the Kryknas and let him off the hook for apprehending Ran’s crew.

Speaking of those X-wing pilots, executive producer Dave Filoni’s character, Trapper Wolf, makes an appearance. He had a minor role at the end of “Chapter 6” when he and another pilot fired on Ran’s space station, and now he’s back patrolling the galaxy like a boss.

Hopefully we’ll get more callbacks throughout the season. We’d like to see Bill Burr or Clancy Brown’s characters come back at some point, and of course, we would love to see the continuing adventures of Trapper Wolf.
