Cheetah returns

Wonder Woman 1984 introduced a bunch of new characters, but the one we’re most interested in is Barbara Minerva, aka Cheetah. The quiet scientist turned apex predator is a reoccurring Wonder Woman villain in the comics and is often considered the Amazonian’s archnemesis.

In the film, Barbara becomes Cheetah after making two wishes on the Dreamstone. At the end, everyone around the world renounces their wish when they realize they were tricked by Maxwell Lord and that they’re wishes are having unintended consequences. The last time we see Barbara, she looks like her old self, which implies that she renounced her second wish, but she might not have renounced her first. She could still have her powers, and if she is still “like Diana,” that means she could also age at the rate of an Amazon. This means her popping up in future installments isn’t out of the question.

The next Wonder Woman movie should further explore Cheetah’s character. Diana could pick up where she left off in WW84 and try to sway Barbara away from her inner darkness. If the next movie focuses on another villain, like Circe, Cheetah could have a redemption arc and fight alongside Diana, which has happened numerous times in the Wonder Woman comics.

There are so many places they could take Cheetah in the next installment. The first step is to decide that she’s coming back, and it sounds like they’re on the right track.
