WandaVision, the first TV show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been a huge success for Disney+. And you don’t have to take our word for it: the data is out there. According to analytics provided to Variety by TVision, the sitcom-inspired superhero drama was the most-viewed title on streaming platforms in January…by a lot. It had an audience-sized figure of 8,127, meaning it was watched 81.3x more on average than other streaming on-demand titles. That includes titles from big services like Netflix and HBO Max.

WandaVision managed to outperform Netflix breakout hit Bridgerton (audience-sized figure of 6.81K), which came in second place. The Disney+ animated movie Soul (6.54K) snagged third place. Meanwhile, HBO Max’s only entry was Wonder Woman 1984 (2.88K), came out in late December, just like Soul.

Here’s the full list:

  • WandaVision (Disney+) — 8.13K
  • Bridgerton (Netflix) — 6.81K
  • Soul (Disney+) — 6.54K
  • Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer (Netflix) — 4.95K
  • History of Swear Words (Netflix) — 3.01K
  • Cobra Kai (Netflix) — 3K
  • Frozen 2 (Disney+) — 2.9K
  • Wonder Woman 1984 (HBO Max) — 2.88K
  • Lupin  (Netflix) — 2.63K
  • Cocomelon (Netflix) — 2.17K

Similar to how The Mandalorian is a part of the Star Wars franchise, WandaVision is part of the MCU. The series went in with name recognition, and clearly it paid off.

And we’re getting lots of new MCU shows coming down the pipe. Up next is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which premieres on March 19. We’ll also see Loki, Ms.Marvel and Hawkeye this year. If WandaVision is any indication, this is a winning strategy.

WandaVision is a huge hit, but Disney+ still trails behind Netflix in the Streaming Wars

Disney+ has been out for just over a year, and already it’s established itself as a major force in the Streaming Wars. That said, it still has a long way to go to catch up to Netflix, which still accounted for 23% of the time people spent watching streaming services in January. Hulu came next at 12%. Even with giant hits like WandaVision, Disney+ was the fifth most-watched service at 3%.

WandaVision will air its final episode this Friday, March 5. Given how big it’s been so far, everyone is expecting an explosive finale. There’s speculation that a big cameo could be on the horizon. However, speaking to Fandom, director Matt Shakman warned that believing fan theories could lead to disappointment. “Of course some people will be disappointed that certain theories don’t end up coming to be true.”

I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store!
