The Future of Fear the Walking Dead

Director Michael E. Satrazemis hinted in a recent interview with Winter is Coming that the show was seeing the end of Act II, and that season 7 will embark in a new direction. If seasons 1-3 were Act I and seasons 4-6 were Act II, then it stands to reason that AMC is probably looking at two more seasons (at least) from Fear the Walking Dead.

The notion of a soft reboot is a good one. It prevents fatigue and introduces new stories that weren’t possible in previous seasons. The Walking Dead did this by moving around to new locations, jumping from the road to Hershel’s farm, the prison to Alexandria and many places in between.

Fear TWD also hopped from location to location, but what makes season 7 so unique is that the scorched earth left behind from the nuclear blast will change everything. Unless there’s a time jump (which is possible, and would help to connect the three shows), then part of season 7 will feature an escape to safety, and it’s more than likely that not everyone will survive. It will also give other characters a chance to shine in ways that weren’t possible before.

Even if the “reset” happens in season 7, there’s no denying that season 6 gave the show a fresh new direction that’s vastly different from anything happening elsewhere in the TWD Universe. With a bold new landscape ahead, and the possibility of the CRM posing threats to the group, Fear the Walking Dead is looking at an exciting future for many seasons to come.
