The Last Kingdom’s final season not coming to Netflix in September 2021
By WiC Staff
For four seasons now, The Last Kingdom has been a shining star in the Netflix lineup, giving us episodes on episodes of medieval period goodness, completely with excellent production values, stellar performances and a script with weight and meaning. The story of Uhtred son of Uhtred, who has ties to both the Saxon lords of Britain and the Dane invaders, has never been a favorite at the Emmys, but he’s inspired the loyalty of many fans.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep the show going to the end of Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories novels, which tell the story of Uhtred’s life over a period of decades. The show’s upcoming fifth season will be its last.
We were heartbroken to hear this, but we’re sure the team is doing everything it can to make the show goes out with a bang. They wrapped on filming back in June, which means they’re now in post-production.
The Last Kingdom season 5 release date
We don’t know exactly when The Last Kingdom season 5 will release on Netflix, but we know it won’t be this month. More likely we won’t see Uhtred’s last ride until sometime in 2022.
But is it Uhtred’s last ride? The fifth season will leave a few of Cornwell’s books unadapted — the series is now finished — but perhaps the team can return when the actors are older? We can hope.
