Michael Keaton’s Batman suit still fits after 30 years: “Svelte as ever”

Michael Keaton hasn’t donned his iconic Batsuit since Batman Returns in 1992, but he’s masking back up for The Flash, and apparently the costume still fits him perfectly, or so he told Stephen Colbert during a recent appearance on The Late Show. “Svelte as ever,” he said. “Same dimensions. Same fitting.”

The Flash will see Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen exploring the DC multiverse, which explains how Keaton can return to this role so many years later. Based on the Flashpoint comics written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kubert, The Flash may bring many Batmen into the picture; Ben Affleck is returning for it, too. “I don’t know how many there are, like 77 Batmans,” Keaton said. “They think they should form their own union.”

Keaton can’t escape superhero projects. On the DC side he’s returning as Batman, and over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe he’s still around as Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture. And he’s not even a big fan of comic book movies. “After the first Batman, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an entire movie,” he said the other month.

Surprise, surprise: George Clooney didn’t get a call to play Batman in The Flash

While The Flash will be bringing back Keaton’s Batman, one of the most beloved incarnations of the character, it won’t include George Clooney’s take on the hero from 1997’s Batman & Robin . This comes as no surprise given how widely hated that movie is. Clooney himself has apologized time after time for it. “They didn’t ask me,” Clooney told Variety. “When you destroy a franchise the way I did, usually they look the other way when The Flash comes by.”

In fact, Clooney hasn’t even let his wife and children watch Batman & Robin. “There are certain films I just go, ‘I want my wife to have some respect for me.'” So we can probably rule out a cameo in The Flash… unless he’s keeping secrets.

The Flash premieres on November 4, 2022. No doubt this movie has plenty of surprises in store.
