Lewin Lloyd as Neville Longbottom

Watching Lewin Lloyd play Lyra’s best friend Roger in the first season of His Dark Materials, it’s easy to picture him playing a convincing Neville Longbottom in a Harry Potter reboot. In the HBO series, he goes from being shy and awkward at times to confidently telling off Lord Asriel at others. He’ll need both of those aspects to capture Neville’s transition from the scared boy we meet in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to the brave, reckless one who materializes by the time we reach Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Watching Roger’s relationship with Lyra, it’s clear that Lloyd has a knack for capturing the loyalty that’s part of any strong friendship, and Neville is nothing if not loyal to those he cares about most. As far as we’re concerned, if Lloyd can portray bravery and loyalty well, he’s the perfect fit for Neville. We can envision him telling off Lord Voldemort during the Battle of Hogwarts already.

And His Dark Materials isn’t the only proof of Lloyd’s acting talent. His film background includes roles in Judy, The Aeronauts, Taboo and more. Like the other younger stars on this list, he’s had some impressive parts, but he’s still new enough that he has time to grow and surprise us, and himself.
