Erryk Cargyll

What would a Game of Thrones show be without a pair of important twins? Although these two aren’t nearly as yucky as Jaime and Cersei.

One of the best side-stories in the Dance of the Dragons involves a conflict between two twin brothers, both of whom are on the Kingsguard. Erryk Cargyll is honor-bound to Rhaenyra since being named as her sworn sword by King Viserys. He helps smuggle the crown to Rhaenyra on Dragonstone and later fights his own brother to defend her claim to the throne.

Arryk Cargyll

Arryk and Erryk Cargyll’s tragic story is inspired by the Arthurian legend of Balin and Balan. Just like that legend, two brothers who love each other are forced to fight to the death because their oaths require them to do so. Arryk is on the side of Alicent Hightower and her greens. He supports Aegon’s claim to the throne over Rhaenyra’s.

Lorent Marbrand

Flipping back to Team Rhaenyra, Ser Marbrand is a knight who eventually becomes commander of her Queensguard. He’s an ardent supporter of the Queen and one of her closest confidants.

Baela Targaryen

A free-spirited young woman, Baela is one of Daemon Targaryen’s twin daughters by his wife Lady Laena Velaryon, who dies fairly early on in the story. She is kept at Dragonstone by Rhaenyra’s side.

Baela is a competent dragon rider who flies on the back of Moondancer. She doesn’t have much of a role to play until much later in the dance, but of all the characters, she and her sister come out of it relatively unscathed, a rarity in this story.

Baela will be played by Bethany Antonia on House of the Dragon. It’s possible we’ll see a younger actor cast to play her as a child.

Rhaena Targaryen

The other of Daemon’s two daughters by Laena, Rhaena is a similarly free-spirited dragon rider whose companion is Morning. She’s largely absent from the war as she’s sent to the Vale to wait out the conflict, but her and her sister’s very existence is important to the feud between Daemon and his brother the king.

Expect a lot more information about House of the Dragon ahead of the premiere on Sunday, August 21. Some of these characters may only have small roles in the first season, if they show up at all. Some may be played by young actors who will grow up with the parts, similar to how Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams blossomed during the run of the original series. Whatever happens, we’ll be watching.
