The Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago, Illinois is off to an epic start. The four-day event began on Thursday, July 28, and saw the likes of Lil Baby, Still Woozy, and the one and only Metallica putting on performances. Stranger Things fans had all eyes on the Metallica set last night, predicting there might be some sort of nod to Stranger Things. While some might’ve had too high of hopes in thinking actor Joseph Quinn might make an appearance, what concertgoers got was still pretty awesome.

In case you missed it, Stranger Things season 4 features a fantastic scene starring the season’s newcomer Eddie Munson (Quinn) which caught the attention of the heavy metal band. Without giving away too many spoilers, he and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) put on a concert in the Upside Down to distract the demobats, and Eddie plays “Master of Puppets” by Metallica.

The scene blew viewers away and the clip went viral across social media, with Metallica even joining in on the fun and posting about it. To celebrate such an awesome ode to ’80s rock, the band shouted out Stranger Things during their performance of “Master of Puppets” at Lollapalooza, throwing up footage of Eddie ripping the guitar up on the big screens.

It’s clear Metallica is loving all the Stranger Things and Eddie Munson hype, and how could you blame them? As we previously reported, “Master of Puppets” found itself at the top of the rock charts on iTunes just days after the release of Stranger Things season 4 volume 2.

“It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show,” the band wrote on Instagram.

And as for Joseph Quinn, the love is definitely mutual. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 25, the actor geeked out over the opportunity, calling it “awesome.”

It’s hard to imagine the hype over any other show or season beating Stranger Things season 4, but we’ll have to see what Stranger Things season 5 has in store for us (and other classic ’80s songs).
