According to an exclusive report from Deadline, director Shawn Levy is in talks to develop a Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm and Disney.

The report suggests that work on Levy’s new Star Wars film will begin after he completes his current project Deadpool 3, which is slated to release in 2024. The third Deadpool movies will see the return of Hugh Jackman in his iconic role of Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. No plot or casting details are available for Levy’s hypothetical Star Wars movie as of yet.

Another day, another Star Wars movie announcement

Levy’s previous work includes directing Real Steal, Free GuyThe Adam Project, and several episodes of Stranger Things. He also recently completed a limited series for Netflix called All the Light We Cannot See, for which he directed all four episodes. Levy will also be involved in the final season of Stranger Things; he’s an executive producer on the series, and will likely direct in the show’s final season as well.

Since the visceral audience reaction to Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, Disney has been hesitant to release a Star Wars movie. Instead, they have focused on expanding the Star Wars universe through television projects with great success, most notablyThe Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor.

There are several movies in development that have little details and uncertain release windows. One will be helmed by Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok) while another is being written by Damon Lendelof (Prometheus) and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Meanwhile Patty Jenkins is making Rogue Squadron, which will focus on a group of Rebel fighter pilots. However, that film was recently removed from Disney’s release schedule and its future is uncertain.

All this is to say, it’s best to take any new Star Wars movie announcements with a grain of salt until we get some concrete details.

Next. Disney+ may be developing an Indiana Jones series. dark
