7. The Walking Dead season 10

While its pacing was somewhat peculiar, season 10 brought us some epic moments. My favorite storyline was Negan infiltrating the Whisperer camp. He was so undercover that he actually got it on with Alpha, a scene everyone wants to forget.

Season 9 gave us one of my favorite battles in the entire series when the Whisperers attack the Hilltop. It was so good: Daryl with his Morningstar, the zombies intervening, and the Whisperers firing flaming arrows into the community. What’s not to love? The battle in the finale was, as Norman Reedus said, very much a Game Of Thrones super battle, delivering a satisfying end to the Whisperer war.

Season 10 also gave us six bonus episodes, which were both good and terrible. Let’s get the bad out of the way first: “Diverged” focused mainly on Carol’s quest to make some soup while being annoyed by a rat in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Daryl struggles to fix his bike. That’s pretty much it. The episode is as boring as it sounds, which is probably why it scores a mere 4.1/10 on IMDb, the lowest score in the show’s history.

That said, the bonus episodes weren’t all bad. Aaron and Gabriel’s solo adventure in “One More” was terrific. And “Here’s Negan” is one of the show’s finest hours. It chronicles Negan’s life and gives fans insight into how and why he became who he is. We learn about his wife Lucille, her struggle with cancer, and how he came to possess his signature barbed wire-covered baseball bat.

6. The Walking Dead season 6

A season of ups and downs, the sixth installment of The Walking Dead reached its peak when the Wolves invaded Alexandria and Carol went full survival mode, taking them out one by one. Who didn’t love that brief-but-exciting arc?

The season brought some shocks, including Carl losing his eye (which has crazy good, gruesome practical effects); Deanna, Jesse, Sam and Ron being bitten by walkers; and Denise taking an arrow to the head. There were plenty of opportunities to shed a tear or two.

My favorite episode is the one where we learn what Morgan’s been up to while living as a recluse, learning how to fight Aikido with his signature stick from Eastman (John Carroll Lynch).

And there were satisfying moments, like when Daryl, Sasha and Abraham run into Bud, a wise-cracking Savior, on the road. He’s the first member of Negan’s group that we meet… and he is instantly blown up by Daryl using a bazooka.

In its season finale, the audience is left wondering who Negan killed? The Walking Dead team was so careful to ensure that the big death wasn’t revealed that they actually filmed fake death scenes for characters just in case anything got leaked. A cliffhanger for the ages.
