Thank goodness it’s the weekend, because there’s so much good TV to watch right now! Sunday nights are now reserved for HBO’s new hit The Last of Us, a video game adaptation that I’m sure will only grow in popularity as time goes on and word of mouth spreads. The premiere of the post-apocalyptic zombie drama was released on January 15, and it’s already doing big numbers for the network. It doesn’t matter if you’re a diehard gamer or a casual TV fan: The Last of Us is worth watching.
The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal stars as Joel Miller, a rough-around-the-edges smuggler living in a quarantine zone after losing his daughter decades ago during the first days of the zombie outbreak. He and his partner Tess (Anna Torv) are tasked with protecting a teenage girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) who somehow appears to be immune to the disease. The plot is pretty simple, but the performances and character relationships are what really make this show shine.
The premiere of The Last of Us ran unusually long for an HBO show, coming in at one hour and 25 minutes. If you’re curious about the run time for the second episode, titled “Infected,” you’re in the right place.
The Last of Us Episode 2 run time
Though the first episode was supersized, don’t expect the rest of the season to follow suit. According to HBO’s schedule, Episode 2 will run for 56 minutes. If you’re tuning in through the channel HBO, the new episode will play three additional times after the premiere at 9:00 p.m. EST. If you’re streaming on HBO Max, it’ll be available at the same time and you can rewatch it at any time through the app or website.
The Last of Us season 1 contains nine episodes total, airing every Sunday night through March.
