Watch the first teaser for The Boys season 4
By Daniel Roman
Details have been relatively sparse about the forthcoming fourth season of The Boys, Amazon Prime Video’s subversive superhero drama. The next thing we’re expecting from this universe is the Gen V college spinoff, but given that The Boys season 4 is currently filming, there’s reason to hope that we’ll get to watch that this year as well.
We still don’t know exactly when that will be, but Anthony Starr (Homelander) has just given fans their first official glimpse of season 4. A new video posted to Starr’s Instagram contains a ton of hints about how Homelander and Vought will react to the huge events of season 3, delivered by newly minted Vought CEO Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie):
Vought will recruit new heroes and hide Black Noir’s death in The Boys season 4
You have to give it to The Boys: Eric Kripke and his team do a great job of keeping the satire up to date. I can’t be the only one who cackled when they talked about how subscribers to “Vought+” were up in the wake of Homelander’s most recent PR stunt of publicly murdering a guy for insulting his son while a crowd cheered him on for living his truth.
There are some intriguing things to parse from this teaser about what’s coming in The Boys season 4. The teaser hints that Vought will try to cover up Black Noir’s (Nathan Mitchell) death by claiming he’s on a secret mission overseas. Noir was murdered by Homelander late in season 3, following the reveal that he knew Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) was Homelander’s father. But Homelander killing another member of the Seven probably wouldn’t be great for PR, so Vought is spinning a convenient lie.
Another interesting tidbit is that Vought is looking to recruit new heroes following the “death” of Maeve (Dominique McElligott), which makes it sound like Vought is not aware she survived the clash with Soldier Boy during the season 3 finale. Ashley also mentions Starlight, who has a big “TRAITOR” stamped over her picture; presumably Starlight is still on the run and working with the Boys.
The Boys and Gen V will feature some crossovers; the spinoff is set between seasons 3 and 4 of the mothership show. Maybe part of that crossover will involve Vought scouting out potential new members of the Seven among college-aged supes?
Alas, one thing not included in the most recent teaser is a release date of any kind. But surely the fact that Amazon is putting little trailers like this out is a good sign. We’ll be keeping an eye out for release dates for both The Boys and Gen V as they’re announced.
