There was one puzzle piece missing from the fourth season of Netflix’s You: Jenna Ortega. While she was not in the third season, her character Ellie Alvarez was still in the fourth installment, the first half of which is available to watch now on Netflix.

In case you’ve forgotten, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) had a friendship with Ellie in season 2. When she had to make a run for it, he continued to send her money and take care of her. She was even mentioned during the opening minutes of season 4. “Most of my professor tricks are one trick I picked up spending time with a girl named Ellie,” he says in voiceover. “Wind them up, let them go. Teenagers will argue both sides for you.”

Clearly, Ellie is still very important to Joe!

While on the red carpet for this year’s SAG Awards, Ortega spoke about how she felt missing out on the fourth season of the popular drama.

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega was bummed to miss out on You Season 4

Recently, You showrunner Sera Gamble talked about Ortega’s absence in season 4. Worry not, if Wednesday doesn’t conflict with You’s final season, then there is a chance Ortega could still show up.

Entertainment Tonight asked Ortega about Gamble’s comments. “Love her,” Ortega said. “Easily one of my favorite sets that I’ve ever, ever been on. I was so devastated when they reached out because I miss Ellie and I had been wanting to go back to Ellie for such a long time but I was in Romania shooting Wednesday. I couldn’t travel back and forth with the pandemic and everything like that and when you’re committed to a show, there was just no way that it could have worked out. But that one bummed me out.”

We were bummed out too! However, seeing Ortega’s success with Wednesday makes everything better. She was nominated at the SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Wednesday Addams. So alls well that ends well!

We can only hope that Ortega will find some time to appear on You’s final season as Joe Goldberg takes his final bow. If there’s anyone that can pull him out of the abyss of murder and chaos, it’s Ellie. And while we wait for all that, keep an eye out for Jenna Ortega in Scream 6, releasing in theaters on March 10!
