Raised By Wolves fans raise Times Square billboard in campaign to save the series
By Daniel Roman
Raised By Wolves was one of the early hits for HBO Max, a science fiction drama about two androids who are tasked with restarting human life on the distant planet of Kepler-22b. Despite building a solid fanbase for itself with its fascinating sci-fi horror storytelling, Wolves was canceled last year following the release of its second season. But the fans haven’t given up hope.
A billboard in support of the #RenewRaisedByWolves campaign went up in Times Square in New York City this week. It was funded entirely by fans through a GoFundMe campaign in an attempt to keep awareness for the show high in hopes that another network will pick it up following HBO Max’s decision not to renew it for a third season. The official Save Raised By Wolves fan account has been sharing pictures of the billboard. Check it out:
Raised By Wolves fans are still fighting to get the show renewed
Season 2 of Raised By Wolves ended with several major cliffhangers; it’s extremely clear it was never designed as an actual ending to the series, but rather as a way to keep viewers excited until the show’s return. Characters like Mother (Amanda Collin) and Caleb (Travis Fimmel) were left hanging — in one case quite literally. So it’s no surprise that many of the show’s faithful are still fighting to see that the series gets a proper resolution.
“Algorithms and shareholders don’t tell great stories, artists do. Thought provoking series are unique and deserve resolution,” the billboard reads. “#RenewRaisedByWolves. We need season 3.”
This message holds particular impact at a time when Hollywood writers are on strike for, among other things, the regulation of AI and more job security for writers. In many ways, Raised By Wolves was a canary in the coal mine for the current issues we’re seeing with streaming platforms; despite ranking as the top streaming series on HBO Max in the early days of the platform, Wolves was canceled in June 2022 and eventually pulled from the streaming platform entirely several months later along with other notable sci-fi shows like Westworld and The Nevers. With streamers like Disney+ and Hulu removing numerous titles as a cost-cutting measure, including relatively new series like last year’s Willow revival, it’s hard to deny that this is becoming a widespread issue with the streaming business model.
Here’s to hoping that Raised By Wolves gets an opportunity to finish out its story. There are certainly people out there who want to see what creator Aaron Guzikowski and producer Ridley Scott had in mind for the series, and as the billboard makes clear, they won’t rest until they get some answers. #RenewRaisedByWolves.
