Succession, HBO’s drama about awful people doing awful things, is concluding this Sunday, and I’m unexpectedly emotional about it. Like Game of Thrones, Succession follows a power-hungry family with more wealth than they know what to do with and a burning need to rule. Since the first season, we’ve watched as Kendall Roy has desperately tried to solidify his place as his father’s heir, doing everything in his power to take over the family company Waystar Royco and carve out a place in his dad’s heart.

Now that Logan Roy is dead, the company’s fate is still up in the air, and there’s just one episode left, where will Kendall land? Well, he’s started to scheme in recent episodes to become the sole CEO of Waystar, and actor Jeremy Strong thinks he’s finally about to have his big moment.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter following the penultimate episode this past Sunday, Strong discussed where Kendall’s at and what it could mean for the finale.

Jeremy Strong (Kendall) compares Succession to Game of Thrones

The most recent episode of Succession, “Church and State,” focuses primarily on Logan’s funeral, where Roman Roy is unable to give his eulogy and Kendall unexpectedly steps in to speak about his late father. Kendall is met with applause, and Strong says the experience represents “a profound transformation” for the character. “They joke about the coronation demolition derby, but it is his father’s funeral and simultaneously Kendall’s coronation,” he said.

As we see in the episode, Kendall is ready to leave his siblings behind and fight for the position he’s always wanted, alone. Strong says his endgame in Succession is “kind of like a Dracarys moment.”

He’s referring to Game of Thrones; “Dracarys” is what Daenerys Targaryen tells her dragons whenever she wants them to breathe fire. The character had some pretty epic moments that start off with the High Valyrian word, some less ethical than others.

Of course, the final time Dany says “Dracarys” is when she burns down King’s Landing in the last season of Game of Thrones, a move that leads to her demise. Will a similar fate befall for Kendall in the Succession series finale? I don’t think there’s going to be a happy ending for any character on this show.

Succession comes to an end this Sunday, May 28 at 9:00 p.m. EST with a supersized 90-minute episode. Based on how strong this season has been so far, it won’t be one to miss.
