Daenerys Targaryen

One of the biggest reasons many people hate the ending of Game of Thrones is because of how the writers conclude Daenerys Targaryen’s arc. There just isn’t enough buildup to the change in her character, which sees her burning down King’s Landing and killing thousands of innocent people in the process. The final season sees Dany dying at the hands of Jon Snow, and I don’t know, I just don’t get how that was the best possible outcome the writers could come up with. Anyway.

Daenerys is one of the best characters in Game of Thrones. She’s sympathetic and kind-hearted, but also determined and incredibly resilient. She’s an inspiration to fans worldwide, and I find it easy to understand why. From enduring her brother Viserys’ abuse to forming an army and followers who truly believe in her claim, it’s amazing to see how far she comes. Sadly, once she actually takes the Iron Throne, she doesn’t live long enough to enjoy it, which really is awful.

I can’t think of any reason Dany shouldn’t be brought back, and while we’re at it, we can rewrite her entire storyline in the final season. She deserves so much better.

VERDICT: Bring back

Robb Stark

Honorable, fair, and caring. Those are three words you might think of when you hear the name “Robb Stark.” Game of Thrones would be very different if he had survived the Red Wedding.

His death scene, which also sees his mother Catelyn and his pregnant wife Talisa brutally murdered, is one of the most iconic TV moments ever, and serves as a pivotal moment in the story. I wouldn’t change anything about it, nor would I choose to bring back Robb from the dead. Bringing him back would detract from how powerful of a scene it is.

I know it might seem harsh, and I know Game of Thrones fans love Robb, but no. The story survives – and thrives – without him. I would much rather see Jon Snow as King in the North (even if he doesn’t want it) than Robb. Jon has a much more interesting storyline, having gone through more life-changing events, from his time in the Night’s Watch to fighting White Walkers and more. While Robb is a good guy, he’s a bit one-dimensional.

Plus, sorry to say it, but he knows he shouldn’t marry Talisa when he’s already promised to one of Walder Frey’s daughters. So much for honor…

VERDICT: Leave dead
