The original Weasley twins want in on the Harry Potter TV reboot
By Ashley Hurst
Whether you love it or hate it, a total reboot of Harry Potter, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. In April, Max announced its ambitious, decade-long commitment to adapting the Harry Potter books as a live-action TV show. The news was met with mixed feelings, from excitement to apprehension to vows to boycott the series altogether.
Of course, the Harry Potter books have already been adapted into what is one of the most beloved movie franchises of all time. What’s the need for a TV show? Several cast members of the original movies have already weighed in on the upcoming show. For instance, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) is “excited” by what’s in store; Jason Issacs (Lucius Malfoy) ”can’t wait“ to see the reboot; and Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) wants a role.
The latest stars to share their thoughts are the mischievous Weasley twins themselves: James (Fred Weasley) and Oliver (George Weasley) Phelps. Like other members of the original cast, they’re not inherently against the idea; in fact, they would quite like to get involved if the opportunity presented itself. That said, they couldn’t return as their original characters; the baton needs to be passed to a younger set of twins.
“I suppose so,” Oliver told the New York Post when asked if he would be a part of the new series if asked. “Whether as our characters, that’s a totally different thing – we’re not quite looking like high schoolers anymore! If it does happen, we only know as much as you do. But, it’s nice that there’s a lot of intrigue around the show.”
“We’ve got a very close bond with a lot of the Potter cast,” James added. “Because it’s like friends from high school or college. You’ve gone through a lot together.”
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams join James and Oliver Phelps in their new show!
The Phelps twins are back on TV in Fantastic Friends, a show where they embark on adventures across the world. In one episode, they go zip-lining in Saint Lucia with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams (Arya Stark). “We went out for drinks a while ago with Maisie and her boyfriend, and we just clicked,” James said.
Fantastic Friends is now streaming on The CW!
