The undead to appear in House of the Dragon season 2?
By Dan Selcke
Well here’s an interesting development. Best not go any further if you don’t want to be exposed to SPOILERS for the upcoming second season of House of the Dragon, cause we got ’em.
We’ve been following the production of House of the Dragon season 2 pretty closely. Just recently, the cast and crew wrapped on an enormous battle scene filmed in Bourne Woods in England. They actually used Bourne Woods for a lot of different scenes. At one point the men of the Night’s Watch were riding through.
We also know that we’ll be visiting the Wall in season 2. This is all interesting, because neither the Night’s Watch nor the Wall feature in George R.R. Martin book Fire & Blood, which is what House of the Dragon is based on. It’s true that, in the book, Jacaerys Velaryon visits Winterfell. So far, we’ve been guessing that the show might also have him visit the Wall, a little treat for the Game of Thrones fans so long as he’s in the North. But given this new development, there might be something more going on…
Evidence that wights turned by White Walkers will appear in House of the Dragon season 2
Fansite Redanian Intelligence spotted something very interesting on the House of the Dragon set at Leavesden Studios: in a makeup booth, there’s a reference board labeled “undead” that has pictures of what appear to be actors in zombie makeup on it, presumably so the cosmetology crew can use it as a guide when applying that makeup to other people.
So, does this prove that we’re going to see undead wights on the second season of House of the Dragon? Not necessarily — it could be a reference board for applying makeup to corpses or something. There will be lots of corpses this season as the blacks fight the greens for control of the Iron Throne. But the heading “undead” seems pretty unambiguous.
It would be extremely strange if the producers featured the wights or even the White Walkers in any significant way, since they play literally no role at all during this stretch of Fire & Blood, which covers the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. My best guess now is that we’ll cut to few wights wandering around in the Haunted Forest when Jace visits the Wall.
Or at least that’s what I’m hoping; anything would be getting really far away from the source material, and I’m not here for that. House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on HBO and Max sometime in 2024.
