When most people think of successful fantasy TV shows, HBO and Prime Video are probably the first two networks that come to mind. They’ve both upped their investments in the fantasy genre lately with new seasons of House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time, The Rings of Power, and more, but Netflix isn’t that far behind.
There are some great Netflix fantasy shows to stream right now! Since Game of Thrones, Netflix has quietly assembled an epic lineup of fantasy shows. There were so many shows that could have made this list, but I wanted to choose a very small, select group of shows that fantasy fans need to watch if they haven’t yet.
So, let’s get the ranking of the best Netflix fantasy shows started with Shadow and Bone.
6. Shadow and Bone

Shadow and Bone is based on Leigh Bardugo’s trilogy of the same name that kickstarted the Grishaverse. The series tells the story of Alina Starkov (Jesse Mei Li), who is a lowly mapmaker for the Ravkan army. After Alina puts on a show and fights off monsters in what’s known as the Shadow Fold, a place of great darkness, she sets out on an adventure to drastically change her country’s future.
The first season of Shadow and Bone premiered on Netflix in the spring of 2021, and it was a pretty big hit. Netflix renewed the show for season 2, but the long gap between seasons was hard to overcome, and Netflix canceled the show after season 2.
When Netflix picked up the rights to the series, it seemed like this show had the potential to become a YA Game of Thrones of sorts on Netflix. Sadly, that did not happen, but it’s definitely still a great show with an epic cast, including Ben Barnes, Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Danielle Galligan, Daisy Head, Kit Young, Jack Wolfe, Patrick Gibson, and more.
5. The Sandman

The Sandman just came to an end on Netflix after two seasons! The Netflix original series is based on Neil Gaiman’s stories and characters from The Sandman comics. The series has an incredible cast, featuring Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, Jenna Coleman, Mason Alexander Park, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and many more.
It’s hard to describe the story of The Sandman in one nice, succinct paragraph, so I’ll just say this: the series follows the ruler of Dreams, Morpheus, played by Sturridge, who travels far and wide to keep his power with the help of friends and in spite of foes. There’s so much going on in this series, and it’s really, really good. If you like fantasy shows, you must check it out!
Lucifer, which exists in the same universe as The Sandman kind of, definitely deserves a spot on this list, too, so consider it an honorable mention!
4. Sweet Tooth

Sweet Tooth is one of my favorite Netflix fantasy shows, and that’s why it’s a must-watch if you haven’t seen it yet. The series is based on Jeff Lemire’s comic series of the same name and stars Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, Stefania LaVie Owen, Will Forte, Naledi Murray, Amy Seimetz, and more.
The series follows Gus, a human-deer hybrid, on his journey to save humanity following The Great Crumble, a viral pandemic that fundamentally changes the world.
Sweet Tooth starts out a little bit rough, in my opinion, but if you can get through that first episode, you’re going to be in for one of the most incredible and fantastical adventures with Gus and his friends.
It’s devastating, heartwarming, and everything in between. I adore this series, and I wish I could watch it again for the first time. It’s so nice when a fantasy series absolutely crushes a series finale. (Looking at you, Game of Thrones!)
3. One Piece

In a few years, One Piece might just be the best of Netflix’s fantasy shows, but we’ve only seen one season of the show. So, right now, it ranks No. 3! The good news is that more One Piece is on the way soon.
For those who don’t know, One Piece is based on Eiichiro Oda’s incredible manga series of the same name. It tells the story of Luffy D. Monkey (Iñaki Godoy) and the Straw Hat Pirates during their quest to find the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar also star in the series.
One Piece premiered on Netflix in August 2023, but it’s been two years since then. One Piece season 2 will be coming to Netflix soon, and we’re expecting Netflix to confirm an early 2026 release date very soon!
2. The Witcher

The Witcher just missed the top spot on the ranking of the best Netflix fantasy shows! Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series of the same name, The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) on their various adventures around the Continent in the middle of a massive war.
The series premiered on Netflix way back in December 2019. Since then, we’ve seen three seasons of the series as of August 2025. The good news is that The Witcher season 4 is on the way later this year, and The Witcher season 5 is already filming as of this spring.
Since the last season, Cavill stepped down as Geralt, and Liam Hemsworth has stepped into the role for the fourth and fifth seasons. Unfortunately, The Witcher season 5 is the final season of the series.
1. Wednesday
That means Wednesday is the best of Netflix’s fantasy shows. While I tried to make an argument that Wednesday doesn’t deserve the top spot, it’s clear that this is the best fantasy show on Netflix. It might even be the best Netflix show ever. It’s certainly one of the three most popular Netflix shows of all time, along with Squid Game and Stranger Things.
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Wednesday tells the story of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) during her first year at Nevermore Academy. Using her powers, Wednesday tries to catch a vicious monster slaughtering people near Nevermore. The series also stars Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Christina Richie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, and more.
Wednesday season 2 premieres on Netflix on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and it’s already renewed for season 3. It appears Wednesday has a Thing-worthy stranglehold as Netflix’s best fantasy show for at least a few more years!
That's the list of the best Netflix fantasy shows so far!
