It looks like season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have our heroes on the road trip of a lifetime!
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms had a lot of ups and downs. Yet it ended with Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Caffley) and his squire “Egg” a.k.a. Prince Aegon Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell) united again on the road.
Speaking to Variety, showrunner Ira Parker confirmed that part of the plan for season 2 is for the pair to head to Dorne. “They do go to Dorne," he said. "How much of that we cover, I’ll leave up to people to tune in for Season 2. I don’t know if I’m supposed to talk about it yet. For the most part, we’re following the books. So Season 1 was "The Hedge Knight." Season 2 is "The Sworn Sword.” Hopefully, if we get to Season 3 it’ll be “The Mystery Knight.””
Fans of the novellas will know that "The Sworn Sword" revolves around a brutal summer drought as Dunk and Egg help a village whose river had dried up. In typical Dunk fashion, things get more complicated as he’s soon involved in a local war for power.
The main setting for "The Sworn Sword" is in the southern part of the Reach, but in the time period leading up to that book, Dunk and Egg do travel through Dorne as they wander about Westeros. It sounds like the show will cover some of that previously unseen material. That’s a fun tale, yet will we see more season 1 characters in it?

Who’s coming back for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2?
The nature of George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg series lends itself to each season of the show being more of an anthology with fresh characters. Yet there is a possibility that we'll see the return of Dunk’s crush, Tanselle, as well as Aegon’s brothers, after season 1 ended with his father Maekar realizing he’d run off with Dunk.
Parker hinted that season 2 could feature a few unexpected returning Targaryens from season 1, but not so much that it distracts from the main storyline. “The one thing about this show, the nobles, the kings and queens are all terribly interesting," he explained. "So many times you want to go and write for them, but the truth is that’s not what this show is. There are a lot of shows, within this world and other worlds, that definitely cover that part. And we’re not that. We are bottom-up. We are in Dunk’s POV. Even minor lords and ladies, we don’t allow ourselves to go behind the scenes in their POVs. For better or for worse, that is the storytelling lens that we have set up for this show. Whether or not somebody will come in and out of Dunk’s world again, I would say probably. Westeros is a — yeah. Yes. That’s all I’ll say. Yes.”
It does sound that season 2 will touch on the First Blackfyre Rebellion as well, but Parker insists the show won’t be too “bogged down” by showing the backstory of Westeros instead of focusing on the two leads.
“But we don’t send people on any side quests, and we try not to get too bogged down in history. These are nice, little contained journeys. It’s an action adventure series, almost. It’s Dunk and his squire having fun and adventures, getting into trouble. Even if we do take two years between seasons, there are no cliffhangers. We’ve told a story and wrapped it up. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed it, and you can come back and see their journey next time.”
Given the show’s massive success in viewership, it looks like a lot of people enjoyed it and are ready to see more of Dunk and Egg and their exploits. Thus, fans can eagerly await season 2 to watch the road trip unfold.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 is streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 is currently filming.
