Before the show even premiered, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms began filming its second season back in December 2025. The cast and crew have remained very busy, intent on avoiding long breaks between seasons—something fans have, of course, been very happy about. After filming in Belfast, Ireland, the team moved to Spain, where star Peter Claffey has documented some of their progress on social media.
Though filming hit a slight snag in April, having to relocate after a historic flood unexpectedly took over the island of Gran Canaria, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is back on location, and things seem to be going well. One of the biggest updates we’ve gotten from the filming of season 2 just came out this week, when a local snapped photos of the cast in action.
Gorgeous photos of AKOTSK filming in Gran Canaria
Photographer Piotr Drezinski took to Instagram to share two really awesome shots, with the first showing five characters beneath a gorgeous sunset, their silhouettes all that can be seen. The person in the middle, riding on a horse, has to be Dunk—played either by Claffey or a stunt man—speaking with unidentified characters.
The second photo is a solo shot of someone riding on a horse down a hill on a sunny day, presumed to be—but not confirmed—Dunk.
In the caption of the post, Drezinski explained how he managed to get such exciting shots, saying filming for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 was taking place “literally in front of my house!”. He also claimed that yesterday was the last day of filming in that location, meaning, if that's accurate, the crew should be heading off to their next stop on the island. On Facebook, he clarified that while he lives in Juncalillo, he was able to see filming taking place on a hill in Artenara.
According to reports from Los Siete Reinos, production in Gran Canaria is also expected to take place at La Fortaleza, which is located in a southern town called Santa Lucía de Tirajana. We do not know how much longer they’re expected to film on the island, though it was initially reported—before the flooding incident—that they’d wrap on season 2 in June.
Of course, Game of Thrones fans flocked to the comments section of Drezinski’s Instagram post to share their excitement and ask questions. A Claffey fan page asked if the person in the second photo had pigtails, to which the photographer answered: “no, he has semi-long hairs, no pigtails.” People are definitely excited about Dunk’s new hairdo for the second season, which will be longer than the bowl cut-type style he had in season 1.
“It’s a lot of fun this year and I’ve got long hair this time!” Claffey dished earlier this year when talking about filming for season 2. “So hopefully the book lovers and the book fans will be happy with that fact.”

And yes, book fans are very happy. So far on social media, people can’t help but comment on Dunk’s longer hair in these new behind-the-scenes photos, excited for a change in appearance similar to how the character is depicted in the novella.
The second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will adapt the second novella in George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series, “The Sworn Sword,” seeing our favorite duo journey off to the Reach. We’ll be introduced to brand new characters and storylines again, covering a story which Claffey says is his “favorite” in the bunch.
“It's totally different. 'The Sworn Sword' is my favorite novella of the three in the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms book. It's a tragic love story. It's a completely different job for Dunk to navigate,” the Irish actor told The Playlist in April.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 will premiere sometime in 2027.
