Wednesday season 2 finally made its arrival on Netflix this summer, and fans simply can't get enough. The streamer split the eight-episode in half, leaving four more episodes to go in September that will wrap up Wednesday's gripping new mystery. Following the season 2 finale, fans don't have to worry about the show's fate. The streamer already renewed Wednesday for season 3, but that's not the only good news in store for the Addams family and their fans.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators of Wednesday, have revealed to Deadline that they are officially extending their creative relationship with the Addams Family franchise. Gough and Millar are working on an animated Addams Family reboot movie for Amazon MGM Studios, the studio behind the Emmy Award-nominated Netflix series. However, don't expect the forthcoming movie to have a connection to the show starring Jenna Ortega.

While sharing the news of their exciting new venture in the Addams Family universe, Gough and Millar were quick to shut down any possible confusion. The developing new animated movie doesn't have any connection to past properties, like the 2019 animated movie The Addams Family, its 2021 sequel, or the Netflix series. The duo are doing a full reboot and creating something brand-new and separate than what has already been made in the past. In that regard, fans should be very excited!
"We’re working on it with Amazon MGM and with Kevin Miserocchi who runs the Addams Foundation, he knew Charles Addams and the keeper of the Addams flame, and with Gail Berman and John Glickman. We’re rebooting the animated film franchise. So it won’t have anything to do with the two films before it, nor is it connected with this show. It will be a brand new Addams feature. There’s not really much we can say about it, because it’s in the very early stages," Gough shared with Deadline.
According to the outlet, the upcoming Addams Family animated movie reboot will have a theatrical release from Amazon MGM Studios rather than making a streaming exclusive premiere on Prime Video. Given the massive success of Wednesday, you would think that Netflix would want to scoop up the distribution and streaming rights to Gough and Millar's next venture in the Addams-verse, but it's likely too soon for those discussions since the movie is still in early development.
In addition to the movie's release details, other information about the movie haven't been revealed, such as who will be cast to voice the Addams Family. Even though it's not connected to Wednesday, maybe Ortega could still lend her voice to the character, but again, it's much too soon to predict or muse what could happen with the upcoming movie. But we can likely assume the movie will be lighter than the Netflix series and have more of an aim toward families.
While some fans probably won't be too excited about the prospect of another Addams Family movie, we should at least be relieved it's not another live-action retelling (though you can't count out Hollywood to do so in the distant future). Wednesday has pretty much hit the nail on the head and would be incredibly difficult to top so soon, especially from the same creators. Stay tuned for more news and updates on the in-the-works movie and Wednesday season 2 part 2!
