It's been a few years since Fourth Wing, the first book of Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean series, took the world by storm in 2023. Readers around the world were captivated by Violet Sorrengail, Xaden Thoreson, magic, dragons, and so much more!
Now, four years and Empyrean books later, Prime Video is officially making the Fourth Wing TV series that fantasy fans have been waiting for. The streamer announced the news that the TV series was officially in the works during Prime Video's Upfronts presentation earlier this week.
Michael B. Jordan is an executive producer on the series helmed by Meredith Averill, best known for The Haunting of Hill House and Locke and Key on Netflix. Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are also producing the series, with Joy directing at least one episode, the series premiere, according to Prime Video.
We don't know how long it's going to take for Fourth Wing to be brought to life on Prime Video, but it is the perfect time to start reading these great books.

For those who don't know by now, Fourth Wing tells the story of Violet Sorrengail, a young woman recruited to become a dragonrider, but first, she must complete a rigorous and deadly slate of challenges to prove she's worthy to bond with a dragon. Then, she must learn what it takes to defend her home from those who wish to destroy her way of life. And, that's just where this twisty tale begins.
If you love dragons, this is absolutely the book series for you.
So far, Yarros has published three books from her Empyrean series. Fourth Wing was the first, of course, followed by Iron Flame on November 7, 2023, and Onyx Storm on Jan. 21, 2025. There's a fourth book in the works, but it's probably going to be a while before that book is published. In other words, you have time to jump on the Fourth Wing train right now and take your time to read the book series before things really get interesting next year and beyond.
The thing is, you won't take your time. As soon as you read the first few chapters of Fourth Wing, you're going to be hooked, and you're going to be speed-reading this book series as quickly as you can. It's the definition of a page-turner.
With a new TV show in the works and the fourth book of the series coming soon, you can't go wrong by starting The Empyrean book series right now.

I'm terrible at math, but you should definitely avoid the three-book sets and just order each book individually. While I'd always recommend checking out local bookstores for these books first to see if they have similar deals, nearly half-price books are going to be hard to beat!
