Every year, we here at WinterIsComing hold a tournament: Fandom Madness, where we pit characters from the farthest flung corners of sci-fi and fantasy against each other until there's only one left standing. And it's just about time!
You can check out this year's bracket below. As usual, it's packed with characters from all sorts of different movies, shows and books.
Voting won't start for a few days yet, so you can take time to chew on these choices. You wonder about the criteria for voting. It's simple: the criteria is whatever you want. Do you want to vote based on which of these two characters would win in a fight? Go ahead? Do you want to vote based on which you like more? Perfectly fine. Which has better hair? It's your choice.
Last year, Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender won our tournament. Naturally he's back this time, but will he claim the crown again? Will it go to someone from The Wheel of Time, which is back on our screen right now? Will it be someone from Star Wars, Game of Thrones, the DC or Marvel superhero universes, or any other of the many fandoms we've drawn from to put together this bracket. That will be entirely up to you.
To determine the winner, we'll be running a series of polls on Twitter/X that we'll repost here on the website. The schedule will roughly track the real-life March Madness going down this month at colleges across the U.S. Here's the schedule:
- First Round: March 20-21
- Second Round: March 22-24
- Sweet 16: March 27-28
- Elite Eight: March 29-31
- Final Four: April 4-5
- Fandom championship game: April 7
The games will officially begin this Thursday, March 20. Stay vigilant, vote however you like, and try to push your favorite across the finish line.
