As The Boys gears up for its highly anticipated final season, Antony Starr (Homelander) has shared his reaction to reading the final scripts — and it sounds like fans are in for a wild, unpredictable ride. With Season 5 marking the end for Prime Video's subserve superhero show, expectations are sky-high.

Starr talked to Collider about his mixed emotions regarding the show’s ending. While he’s grateful for the success and longevity of The Boys, he also believes that ending at Season 5 is the right call.

"It’s strange because as much as I love the show, I don't like seeing things outstay their welcome, so I'm kind of glad we're finishing at five, and that's it. I love the show and the characters, so it's a bittersweet moment."
Antony Starr

This should come as a relief to fans who have seen other popular series lose momentum by overstaying their welcome (cough, The Walking Dead, cough). If The Boys maintains its high quality until the very end, it could cement its place as one of the best TV finales in recent memory.
But what really caught fans' attention was Starr’s reaction to the final episodes:

"I've got to say, in typical Boys fashion, I never see it coming with this show. Every time I think I know what's going to happen, something else happens. This was no exception, these last scripts."
Antony Starr

So far, he’s read through the first six episodes but knows how it all ends. And according to him, the finale will leave fans either "surprised or shocked, depending on their nervous system." Given The Boys’ history of pushing boundaries, that’s saying a lot.

What this means for The Boys’ final showdown

Season 4 ended with Homelander achieving an unprecedented level of power. With President Steven Calhoun (David Andrews) declaring martial law and placing Homelander in charge of a superhuman task force, the world is teetering on the edge of total Supe domination. Meanwhile, most of The Boys have been captured, leaving only Annie (Erin Moriarty) and Butcher (Karl Urban) to mount a resistance.

Homelander’s long-term goal has always been clear: he wants Supes to rule over regular humans. With his enemies neutralized and Sage (Susan Heyward) advising him behind the scenes, the odds have never been more in his favor. However, this is The Boys, and nothing ever goes exactly as planned.

One major wildcard in season 5 is Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). The season 4 post-credits scene teased his return, with Homelander seemingly pulling him out of stasis. The two never saw eye-to-eye, and their dynamic could be a key factor in how the final battle plays out. Whether Soldier Boy will help Homelander, betray him, or serve his own chaotic agenda remains to be seen.

Antony Starr’s comments suggest that The Boys will be pulling out all the stops for its final season, delivering shocking twists and explosive payoffs. Given the show’s reputation for subverting expectations, it’s safe to say that fans should brace for anything.

There’s also the possibility that the second season of spinoff show Gen V, which drops later this year, could provide hints about the main show’s endgame. The two series have become interconnected, and the spinoff could set the stage for some of the major conflicts in The Boys’ final run. One thing is certain: when The Boys season 5 arrives on Prime Video in 2026, it will be an unforgettable farewell. Whether the show’s heroes (or villains) make it out alive remains to be seen, but we can count on it not being predictable.
