The idea of an Elden Ring movie hasn’t been easy to digest. How do you adapt a game that’s not exactly easy to explain? Just like the other games by developer FromSoftware, Elden Ring barely explains its story and expects you to piece most of it together on your own, which works great when you’re playing, but not so much for a movie. George R. R. Martin wrote the entire backstory and lore of the game, and it’s a good one.
But translating that into a feature film adaptation isn’t quite straightforward, unlike Fallout or The Last of Us. Although now there’s more proof that it’s actually happening. Large sets have been spotted being built in the UK, and they look very specific to locations from the game.

What we know about the Elden Ring movie so far
We now have a video courtesy of ThroxTV on TikTok, who also posted it on the Elden Ring subreddit. It shows locations that are reminiscent of those from the game, including a statue of Queen Marika. If you’ve played the game, you’ll recognize it instantly.
There’s also a church-like structure in the footage that lines up with the Churches of Marika you come across early in Limgrave.
The film itself has been in development for a while and was announced in May 2025, directed and written by Alex Garland, and backed by A24 and Bandai Namco (publisher of the game), which is an interesting pairing. A24 usually leans toward smaller, director-driven projects, so seeing them take on something this massive in its scope is a bit unexpected but still welcome. They're also working on a Death Stranding movie with Hideo Kojima.

Garland might not seem like an obvious choice for a fantasy epic, but he is a massive gamer after all. In an interview with IGN last year, while promoting 28 Years Later, he shared that he was on his seventh playthrough of the game, which is definitely a good sign. He’s also written for video games before, like with Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (2010) and DmC: Devil May Cry (2013).
Thankfully, George R. R. Martin is also attached as a producer. Not much has been revealed about the casting yet, although Nick Offerman seems to be cast in the movie, based on the hints he gave during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
His participation in the film has been confirmed by World of Reel, who also previously shared that Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Cailee Spaeny have been cast in the movie, although nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet.
There’s already speculation that the movie could be a prequel, focusing on events like the Shattering instead of retelling the player’s journey. We'll be on the lookout for more information as filming gets underway.
