With Threshing Day, a new Empyrean book by Rebecca Yarros, coming out in a week, one would assume it would be a great time to be a Fourth Wing fan online, but that is not the case lately.
Fourth Wing executive producer Michael B. Jordan has a lot of Fourth Wing fans panicking after his Vogue interview and cover, and he didn't even mention the Prime Video series based on Yarros' book series. Apparently, that's the problem.
"I'll probably take the rest of next year off,” Jordan told Vogue. “That’s probably when I’m going to do more reflecting and processing of all of this. Because honestly, it’s been—I’ve been moving.”
If you're not in the loop for the Fourth Wing TV series, this update seems like a harmless comment from one of the busiest actors in the industry. Jordan is simply letting the world know that he's had a lot going on over the last, well, decade or so, and he's ready for a little bit of time off.
So, why are Fourth Wing fans worried?
To understand why Fourth Wing fans are worried, you really have to know the lore. Without going too far down the rabbit hole, Jordan is an executive producer for the series, but there have also been rumors that he'll also play a key role in the series. It's hard to say what's true and what's just fans speculating online, but Jordan said, "I don't know," in an interview with BBC when he was asked if he would be playing a role in the series.
So, if Jordan is booked through the first half of 2027 and he's not working the rest of the year and he's going to be in the series, Fourth Wing fans are concerned that means the TV series will not start filming until 2028.
Now, I'm not exactly worried as a Fourth Wing fan, but you can see fans getting frustrated, to say the least, all over social media because this show is taking a really long time to get going. Part of that is understandable. This is a big fantasy show! We've been hearing about this show for a few years now, but we don't really have anything concrete to point to yet. Fans are passionate.
The issue is that, outside of Jordan's cast updates, which he's shared a few of by now, there haven't been any actual casting announcements. The timeline for production or release has not been revealed. Everything is happening behind the scenes, which is fine, but I can see why fans are frustrated and concerned.
With Jordan onstage, Prime Video confirmed the Fourth Wing TV series was officially in the works in May 2026. Since then, there haven't been many updates about the TV series. We saw a casting call this summer, but that's been the biggest news for a few months.
Ultimately, fans are probably reading a little too much into Jordan's schedule. It's also entirely possible that Jordan actually isn't playing a role in the Fourth Wing TV series and that he's just a producer on the upcoming fantasy series. That would make complete sense.
On top of that, Jordan also could not be allowed to say anything. Maybe there's nothing official to announce yet. Maybe the timeline isn't firmed up, and he's keeping his calendar open. There are a myriad of explanations, and they might not all be bad for Fourth Wing fans.
Some fans are being quite level-headed around the web, while others are worried that we'll never actually see this series get made because it's been so long. I will say, it really hasn't been that long compared to other TV and film projects. Would I love for it to be happening much more quickly? Yes, but it might just be the natural order of things playing out.
We'll just have to wait and see if we hear any news about the Fourth Wing TV series before the end of the year. With casting happening, we could be close to an update in the near future.
