After months of waiting for big news about the Fourth Wing TV series, it's all coming out now!
Less than two weeks after Prime Video revealed the leads of the upcoming Fourth Wing TV series, Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakrayra, had been found, there are reports that Fourth Wing is starting production next spring.
According to a report from Screen Rant, some sleuths have discovered Fourth Wing is gearing up to start filming its first season in Vancouver, British Columbia, starting on April 5, 2027. Production will last through most of the year and wrap on Nov. 8, 2027.
The report reveals that the Fourth Wing series, which is based on the Empyrean book series by Rebecca Yarros, is being filmed under the production title "Azores." It also cites the Directors Guild of Canada as the source of the production schedule. Of course, those dates are not set in stone. Things can move more quickly or get delayed, as we've become too familiar over the past few years.
For those who don't know how all this film and TV production stuff works, production companies and the unions, or guilds, often list upcoming productions for a number of reasons, but it's basically a good way to let those in the industry know what's happening where, where the job opportunities are, and more. Frequently for big shows and movies, they'll use a production title to make things slightly more secretive and difficult to track. A show like Fourth Wing is going to have rabid fans looking for information, and it can get complicated and expensive to keep people away from the set and studios.
This is obviously incredible news for Fourth Wing fans because it starts to make everything feel a little more real. I felt that way when we learned the series was officially happening back in May, and I also felt that when I learned that Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya were starring as Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson in the series. While we still have a long time to wait, things are moving in a positive direction for the Fourth Wing TV series, and I hope fans recognize that.
One of the common sentiments among fans looking forward to the series was that it wouldn't actually start filming anytime soon. The series has been in the works at Prime Video for a long time. A number of creators have been involved and then left the project. Now, it really feels like things are starting to move behind the scenes. That's super exciting for fans!

It's still going to be a really long time until Fourth Wing premieres on Prime Video
With all of that said, Fourth Wing fans are in for quite a long wait still until the series actually premieres on Prime Video.
This is getting ahead of ourselves a little bit considering filming hasn't even started and it's still months away from starting, but I'll share a little bit about how this usually goes for some fans who might not be familiar with how long it takes to bring these big fantasy shows to life.
With casting happening now, you can also assume that the scripts are being ironed out as we speak. We're going to learn a lot more casting news in the coming weeks and months as the leads of the series start heading to Vancouver, or wherever the pre-production work is happening, for costumes, training, and rehearsals.
We'll fast-forward to April for the production start. Filming will take about six or seven months, based on the reported production. Then, the series will move into post-production, which means several months of editing and effects work. There's likely going to be a lot of effects work with a show like this because, you know, the dragons. Just look at how long House of the Dragon spends on bringing that world to life. There's a two-year break between every season.
From there, Prime Video is going to start promoting the series and dropping trailers and teasers. Then, we'll have the cast and creative team doing press, and then the series will be released, probably weekly, on Prime Video around the world.
The time between production wrapping in November and the show's actual premiere will be big. I think we'll be waiting six months, minimum, until the first season is ready. It might even be longer than that, something like nine months to a full year after filming wraps, until the show premieres.
If I were to share a way-too-early prediction for the Fourth Wing TV series after tracking production dates and timelines, I would guess that the Fourth Wing TV series will premiere in the summer or fall of 2028.
If we're lucky, the premiere will be the spring of 2028, but that's a long shot when it comes to these fantasy shows. There's simply too much work that has to be done.
So, assuming all the information we've heard so far is correct and production will actually take place between April and November next year, the Fourth Wing TV series will premiere on Prime Video sometime around mid-2028. If there are delays, it might be even longer than that.
We'll share more news about the Fourth Wing TV series as we find out. It will be interesting to see what arrives first, Book 4 of The Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros or the first season of the Fourth Wing series, but that's for another time.
Stay tuned for more news about Fourth Wing and The Empyrean series!
